A hotel can only be rated 5 stars if specific criteria are met. These are divided into three categories: "equipment", "customer service" and "accessibility and sustainable development". Here are the essential points to follow to obtain this 5-star rating:
The hotel's facilities
A 5-star hotel must have at least 6 rooms, each of which must meet certain criteria. In particular, a single room must cover an area of at least 20 m² and a double room of at least 24 m². Private bathrooms and toilets must also be installed in all rooms, although there is no requirement for partitioning. The toilets are ideally separated, while the bathroom should in principle have a bath and shower.
In addition to the mandatory accessories of accommodation, a 5-star hotel must also equip its rooms with air conditioning, internet access and a telephone. The television installed must allow access to thematic and foreign channels.
Bed sizes must also be increased in at least 50% of the hotel rooms. Other equipment such as a mini-bar, safe, printer, fax or computer will also increase the points awarded to the establishment.

Customer services
On the service side, a 5-star hotel must first offer a reception available for at least 12 hours a day if the establishment has less than 30 rooms and 24 hours a day if the number of rooms exceeds 30.
The reception area must be well cared for and spread over a minimum area of 90 m². For an impeccable welcome, reception staff must also be fluent in at least two foreign languages. Hotel guests must be able to order meals and be served directly in their rooms. A freight elevator and an elevator for two levels are mandatory. However, the establishment must have a catering room.
Accessibility and sustainable development
In terms of "accessibility", a 5-star establishment must provide carefree access for people with reduced mobility. It is also obliged to indicate information on this point on media such as the Internet or travel guides.
Hotel staff must also be sensitized on the subject. Specific equipment can be installed to optimize the comfort of people with disabilities on the premises, including a television remote control or a telephone with large buttons, among others. Awareness-raising on water and energy saving and waste management must also be carried out among the establishment's employees.
Other criteria can be added to these mandatory points, including the installation of low-energy light bulbs for example, the installation of an ecological bathroom, or the regular use of organic or fair trade products.
